If you are going through your day-to-day life thinking that something feels off with your sleep, anxiety level, weight, libido, or just your overall well-being, it may be time to see a doctor for a physical exam and blood work. If you are over the age of 40 (male or female), make an appointment at Willowbend Med Spa for a consultation about your symptoms and possible hormonal imbalances. Plano, TX board-certified OB/GYN Dr. Deanah Jibril has been working with patients for many decades on anti-aging therapies like hormone replacement. As medical director of this practice, Dr. Jibril wants to see every patient not only looking their best but also feeling healthy and in good spirits as well. She does this by assessing hormones and treating low levels of certain hormones (testosterone or estrogen) with bioidentical hormone replacement therapies (BHRT) like BioTE pellets for both men and women. If you would like to see Dr. Jibril for BHRT, please schedule an appointment for a consultation or bring it up to her or one of our medical professionals at Willowbend Med Spa when you are in for a visit.
A diagnostic evaluation for hormone imbalances consists of several noninvasive parts: the physical examination and the collection of a blood panel and urine. Your actual hormone levels will be determined through the blood work. However, the examination and urine sample given will help Dr. Jibril rule out other causes for your symptoms like an adrenal disorder or thyroid condition.
As a candidate for BHRT, you may have some really mild symptoms or medical issues that are truly affecting your quality of life. Changes in mood, focus, memory, appetite, sex drive, energy level, quality of sleep, weight, hair loss and more are all symptomatic of a hormonal issue. Even more specifically, women may have an irregular menstrual cycle, mood swings, vaginal dryness, difficulty losing weight, and more when estrogen levels decline. Men can too experience unexplained weight gain, moodiness, sleep disruptions, hair loss, bone loss, erectile dysfunction, and more when testosterone levels drop as men age.
Once it has been determined that you need to supplement with BHRT or BioTE pellet therapy, then Dr. Jibril will make a treatment plan based on your needs. She may recommend a customized topical cream or gel (made by a compounding pharmacy) to be applied to the skin. Depending on how you tolerate the hormone therapy, she may suggest an injectable version of the BHRT for better results.
If you decide to have pellet therapy inserted into your skin, the BioTE pellets can be placed in a quick in-office visit every 3 – 6 weeks. The subcutaneous insertion of the pellets would be placed on the upper buttocks (with a fine incision, a local anesthetic, and surgical glue for closing). The quicker your body metabolizes the pellet, the more frequently you would need to have them replaced. Stress or increase in body temperature are both great examples of what can make the pellet metabolize faster. Otherwise, the pellet should release the BHRT with regularity and consistency on a daily basis until it is depleted.
What to Expect
BHRT should start to take effect within the first week you begin your therapy. You may need to follow-up with Dr. Jibril if your symptoms worsen, new issues arise, or if you feel like the BHRT is just not working for you. We are here for you at Willowbend Med Spa if you have questions or concerns about your treatment. Routine blood work will need to be completed as frequently as Dr. Jibril requests so that she can document your progress and hormone levels during the treatment.
