About Chemical Peels
To provide the best results from chemical peel facial treatments, Willowbend Med Spa provides you with professional chemical solutions (such as glycolic acid, TCA or trichloroacetic acids, Jessner Peel, or the Vi Peel) for healthier, more radiant skin. At our Plano, TX office, board-certified OB/GYN Dr. Deanah Jibril offers chemical peels to minimize unruly skin problems like sun damage, wrinkles, acne scars, fine lines, rough patches, hyperpigmentation issues, and more. Chemical peels dissolve dead, damaged skin cells, which causes the top layer to peel off. As your skin heals and begins to rejuvenate and repair itself, you may notice a clearer, smoother complexion. A chemical peel treatment is a noninvasive option to make your skin radiant and may be used for the neck and face.
Chemical Peel Ideal Candidates
Getting the recommendations of an aesthetics professional is the first step in the journey to healthy, smooth skin. At Willowbend Med Spa, Dr. Jibril will assess your skin in an exam before choosing a chemical peel treatment for best results. Chemical peel candidates, both women and men, should have noticeable concerns on their skin including scars, flaky skin, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, fine lines, sun spots, and much more. We may suggest varying strengths of chemical peels to match your needs and goals.
You may not be the right fit for a chemical peel if you have allergies to any of the ingredients in our peels, have hypersensitive skin, have inflamed or cystic acne, have used Acutane® in the last twelve months, if you are pregnant or nursing, or have had a laser skin resurfacing within the last six months. Dr. Jibril will go over your medical history to see if you have other contraindications before performing a chemical peel.
Chemical Peel Technique
At our Plano, TX office, we perform chemical peels in several levels of strength (light and medium depth) to meet skincare needs and goals.
Light-depth peels: You can have a light chemical peel during your lunchtime and resume your usual routine. This level of peel will remove the top skin layer (the epidermis), giving your face a brighter appearance and softer texture. We typically suggest that you receive a light chemical peel more often than a medium-depth peel for luminous skin results.
Medium-depth peels: As a more intense chemical peel for your skin, a medium-depth peel, like the Jessner Peel, should be performed before a long weekend or when you have a few days to take off of work. You may also need to prepare yourself for more discomfort with this peel because they are designed for patients who have significant damage to the skin (more extensive wrinkles and darker pigmentation issues).
At your Willowbend Med Spa chemical peel appointment, we will have you recline in a relaxed position when we administer your peel. We will make sure your skin is cleansed before applying the acidic solution to your face, neck, or both. A select solution will be applied onto your skin and will penetrate the area for a specific amount of time, which will be discussed beforehand in your consultation. Next, we will wash the solution off your face and apply a neutralizing agent. You should bring a light sunscreen and/or a hat to wear outside after the peel to protect against UV exposure.
Chemical Peel What to Expect
Depending on the strength of the peel you receive, you can expect the treated area to itch and peel from a few days to a couple weeks. Dr. Jibril or a member of her team will discuss ways to care for your skin during your procedure. Please keep in mind that no matter how much your skin itches during the recovery, it is never good to peel the skin off. You could cause scarring to your skin!
Chemical Peel FAQs
How much does a chemical peel cost?
Dr. Jibril will go over your costs in your consultation as soon as she has made your custom treatment plan. The cost of a chemical peel can vary based on the formula you select. Willowbend Med Spa accepts many payments methods and there are often specials on treatments like chemical peels. You may also consider buying a package of several chemical peel treatments.
What level should I choose for my chemical peel?
The best chemical peel for you will depend on your unique skin issues and cosmetic goals. During your consultation with Dr. Jibril, she will help you choose which type of peel is right for your skin. Some factors you may consider are your overall health, your skin type, how powerful and intensely you want the peel to work, and how much time you can allocate for recovery. It's better to select a lighter peel and see how you like the results. From there, you and Dr. Jibril may change up your plan for a modified treatment.
Should I get a chemical peel or dermabrasion treatment?
Chemical peels and dermabrasion are both facial rejuvenation procedures that address surface blemishes to give your skin a smoother appearance. The main difference is that dermabrasion uses surgical tools (a rotating brush or shaving instrument) to remove the top layer of skin through a careful scraping process. A chemical peel uses a caustic solution that is applied to your skin to dissolve damaged skin cells. During your consultation, Dr. Jibril will explain the advantages of both options and help you decide whether a chemical peel or dermabrasion best fits your needs and goals.
Will my face hurt after a chemical peel?
Depending on the chemicals used, you may have some discomfort when it is on your skin. If you choose a lighter peel, you may feel some stinging but it goes away quickly with a handheld fan. Medium peels are better for deeper problems and give you longer-lasting results, but they are usually more uncomfortable. Topical anesthetics, medications, and ointments can be applied to minimize your discomfort during the treatment. Dr. Jibril or a member of our team will go over post-treatment skin care to help your skin heal.
